The Results
The final design showcases the movement between each scene, by using a warm purple-to-yellow gradient. The phone cord flows throughout the entire post, while bits of information gather around the cord. Despite corded phones being a thing of the past, it was added for dramatic effect. The hand-drawn illustration was inspiration from my personal memories. From watching a family member extended the cord to a limit to the point of wanting to disconnect from the wall and yet still being attached by a flimsy cord. It is an ironic twist as to how women are wanting to break through the wage gap and yet at still constricted. This design was created for Typography I at the University of Baltimore, Fall 2021.
The Process
“Ring Ring” is an Instagram PSA Post created to support the Paycheck Fairness Act. The Paycheck Fairness Act is meant to “eliminate loopholes in the Equal Pay Act, breaking harmful patterns of pay discrimination and strengthening workplace protections for women” (DeLauro, 2023). I wanted to create a PSA that got the message across while still maintaining a dramatic depiction of the process.
