The Results
This final design visually conveys movement between each scene through a warm pink-purple-to-yellow gradient. The phone cord weaves throughout the entire post squeezing through pieces of information. While corded phones are now a thing of the past, a smartphone would not have the same dramatic effect. The hand-drawn illustration was inspired by my personal memories—watching a family member stretch the phone cord to its limits, almost disconnecting it from the wall, yet still hanging by the flimsy cord. This is meant to serve as an ironic commentary on how women are continuing to fight and wanting to breakthrough the wage gap but yet are always constricted. This design was created for Typography I at the University of Baltimore in Fall 2021.

The Process
“Ring Ring” is an Instagram PSA designed to support the Paycheck Fairness Act. The Paycheck Fairness Act aims to “eliminate loopholes in the Equal Pay Act, breaking harmful patterns of pay discrimination and strengthening workplace protections for women” (DeLauro, 2023). My goal was to create a PSA that would effectively communication that message across a five post spread with the help of a dramatic visual approach.

Rough sketch of what would become the final iteration without the dramatic visual approach.
