Final Iteration of Data Visualization
The Results
The final visual is divided into two sections: the overall county and smaller sections within its sector. The first half presents a semi-detailed map of Montgomery County (MoCo), illustrating the various factors, such as distance between libraries and the fluctuations in household incomes throughout majority of the county. The second half focuses on six specific libraries: Connie Morella, Chevy Chase, Silver Spring, Long Branch, Kensington, and Wheaton. These six libraries are located within a few miles of each other, with easy access to transportation and are situated in areas where the household incomes levels are more diverse. This data visualization was created for Creative Methodologies at the University of Baltimore in Spring 2022.
The Process
Left: Households in MoCo Right: Household Income in MoCo
Accessibility to MoCo (Montgomery County) Libraries is a data visualization project designed to illustrate how accessible libraries varies based on population and household income. Drawing from my personal experience living in the county, I've always found a library within a 5-mile radius, offering wide range of material and resources over the past several years. The visualization highlights the differences in library access, emphasizing how population and income influences the availability and proximity to these resources.
